Hi. This is me.
I'm the fat one.

I weighed 220 lbs this morning, and I'm blogging about it.

When I got out of the Army in 2010, I weighed 180 lbs.
Those were the good old days. I made it up to 239 lbs before I went on a juice diet for 10 days. Now I am back down to 220 lbs, but I've stagnated.

I got out of the Army for a lot of reasons. One of those reasons was patellofemoral pain syndrome and chronic degenerative arthritis in my left knee. The Army left me without any cartilage in my knee and I spent a year on a cane. I tried to hide it from the camera, but that's not my zipper I'm holding with my left hand.
After lots of therapy, steroids, and pain medication, the cartilage in my knee actually started to grow again. I am one lucky boy. One fat lucky boy.

I used to love running. I was as fast as lightning. No camera could handle my speed.
And so I thought I'd try it again. And I need you all to help keep me on it. I want to get back down to that 180 lbs me. Or maybe even lower. 160 lbs might be nice again. Who is that handsome devil?
Either way, to get back in the game, I signed up to run in the Virginia Beach Half Marathon on September 1st. That gives me exactly 75 days to get my butt off the couch and into gear.

DAY 1 - 18 June 2013

Today marks Day 1. I ran 2.5 miles this morning and I feel great.

  1. Hey sergeant, you've got this! I remember when you helped me on my run for my GAFPB in Arizona, you weren't even breathing hard and I passed with just five seconds to spare. You can get back to that. Keep up the hard work!

    1. Thanks Richardson! When I was struggling with my 10 minute miles today I was thinking about the good old days when I could run!

  2. Good job buddy. Don't forget that you're the absolute most stubborn person on Earth, so lean on that when the rest of you wants to quit.

    1. Who me? I'm not stubborn. I'm not! Okay. Maybe a little.

  3. Your family is beautiful! And, I swear, Danica could birth 12 kids and no one would ever be the wiser....she's like some mythical creature that never ages that I forget the name of....but much, much kinder.

Good luck on your journey - it sounds like you are extra determined and will probably have to change your blog title relatively soon. :)
